All automotive students are required to complete the Tri-C Application

• Create an account with your personal email address.
• Select "Degree or Certificate Program" to complete the correct credit application.
• Choosing Ford ASSET or GM ASEP as a major does not admit you to the program.
• If you are unsure about which program, please review the FAQ page, or call 216-987-5330, or book an appointment. 

Ford ASSET or GM ASEP require additional steps

1. Complete the  or application.
2. with the program director and faculty coordinator.         

Explore dealership placement (complete by June 1).

• Review Google Maps for participating  and  dealerships close to home.
• Prepare for the interview by polishing your resume and practicing an elevator speech with the help of Tri-C Career Marketplace.
• Apply to a dealership and plan to follow up with an in-person dealership visit.
• Expect a drug test, background check and BMV driving record to be part of your onboarding. 
• Since dealerships have limited employment opportunities for inexperienced technicians, it is never too early to secure dealership employment. 
• Inform the program director once you have a confirmed start date. 

*Not all Ford dealerships are available for ASSET student employment. .

Tuition rates are set by residency rate. Confirm your residency rate is correct in your Tri-C acceptance email. If not, call Admissions and Enrollment Services at 216-987-6000. Submit high school transcripts to satisfy placement, or schedule placement testing

1. Initiate the release of official transcripts, GED or test scores to Tri-C. Check your Tri-C email for updates regarding the receipt and evaluation of your documents and to see if math or English placement testing is required.
2. Visit the Tri-C Testing Centers for placement options. Eligible placement tests require appointments, not just the practice test.
3. Students in the short-term certificate program do NOT need to complete placement testing, orientation or counseling. Email the program director to confirm this exemption.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS): Different from high school, students with disabilities must self-identify by completing the electronic form, uploading documentation and meeting with a Tri-C SAS coordinator prior to their classes to start receiving accommodation in the classroom or testing environment. It is recommended students arrange accommodations prior to testing and six weeks before classes begin.

Depending on your major, this step varies.

Short-term Certificate: No orientation or counseling appointment is required to complete these first four classes. Email the program director to confirm this exemption.

Certificate of Proficiency and Associate of Applied Science:

1. Once your math and English placements are satisfied (review your Tri-C email), complete the New Student Orientation.
2. Schedule a counseling appointment. Once the counseling appointment is completed, you can register for classes online.
3. Get registration support from the Admissions and Enrollment Services via phone, chat or in person during designated hours.

Corporate Program: Ford ASSET and GM ASEP: Accepted corporate students will receive an email invitation to attend their cohort-specific orientation in late July, meaning Step 3 is their last required step of enrollment prior to their scheduled orientation.

During their Ford or GM Orientation students will:

1. Complete program orientation requirements
2. Meet with an academic counselor
3. Register for classes as a cohort
4. Receive their Tri-C Stomp card (student ID)

Please note that all Ford and GM classes are not visible in the course catalog because they are reserved for accepted students in the cohort and granted department approval.

To ensure full participation in the Ford ASSET or GM ASEP program, students must complete all prior enrollment requirements (Steps 1–3) and hopefully have employment secured at a dealership by this time. The last possible day to secure employment at a dealership is the first day of field experience which is in mid-October. Transparent communication with the program director is essential to verify admission requirements have been satisfied prior to awaiting orientation to complete all other enrollment steps.

After registering, present a photo ID to the Admission and Enrollment Services desk to get your photo taken, and wait for your Stomp Card to be printed. You can load money on this card or use it at the bookstore to purchase books using financial aid funds. To find books for registered classes, log in to and click on the "Campus Services" card, or visit your bookstore with a copy of your schedule.
